The history of these can be traced back to Japanese paintings over 300 years old. These bantams carry their tails upward and higher than the head. The wings angle down and back along the sides. Good layers, nice for show, and very popular. Because of a genetic characteristic in Japanese bantams there is no such thing as a pure short legged Japanese. You may experience some chicks with medium to long legs. This variety is identical to the Black Tailed White Japanese except a beautiful buff color takes the place of the white feathers. One of our more popular bantam varieties, this breed will definitely become one of your favorites too.

My order of 27 chicks recently came. My parents wouldn't allow me to purchase the Japanese Bantams because I already had too many. So I only could hope for the Japanese to be my free exotic chick. When the chicks came nobody believed it was a Japanese Bantam, but I know two months later this little chick has around 4 inch tail feathers. We also got an extra Mille Fleur d'uccle Bantam. Thankyou for sending me gentle and healthy chicks.
I purchased some Buff Japanese Bantams a few years ago, and they quickly became the prize of my flock! We got 1 very handsome rooster and 4 hens. The rooster was sweet, and the hens were amazing mothers! Even my husband (not exactly a chicken lover) has enjoyed watching these beautiful and active birds. I can't wait to order more!
I love these little girls! They dance around the yard chasing dandelion tufts like kimono wearing dancers with much vigor. They are good layers and are surprisingly hardy. I recomend this breed for the chicken fancier who likes to laugh in awe.
