Both China and Japan claim the origin of these unique bantams, and the earliest recorded history of Silkies occurs in Marco Polo's writings about his travels to the Orient. Their black skin and feathers that feel much like hair make them one of our most unusual varieties of chickens. Our Silkies come both bearded and non-bearded and are excellent setters on all types of eggs. They are striking in appearance with their white plumage and mulberry colored comb, face, and wattles. The ear lobes are a light blue turquoise and the skin is dark bluish/black. They are a table delicacy in the orient.
As a reminder, to help ensure a safe arrival to you, the minimum number of chicks for each order prior to April 1st is 25.
On and after April 1st, the minimum number of chicks required is 15. You can mix and match any type of baby chick in your order to reach the applicable chick minimum order. If ordering any bantams, we require a minimum of 15 bantams per order.

Customer Product Reviews
I ordered 25 Silkies and every single one of them was alive and healthy. They are so adorable, like little white puffballs. It has been over a week and I have not lost a single one! I look forward to raising these sweet babies!
I LOVE SILKIES!!
My silkie, Vanilla is so cute and fuzzy.
She likes to be pet and is so soft.
Trust me, you need a silkie or two.

I purchased 5 White Silkies and just got them yesterday. I was very surprised that they were smaller than the regular size chicks!!Sadly, two has died this morning. Other than that, the others are doing just fine! Thank you for your service, McMurray Hatchery!
I received an order of 25 Black Silkie and White Silkies last Monday. As of Wednesday, they had all perished. I am so sad and disappointed that they didn't make it, but I followed all the instructions from the experts at Murray McMurray - they may have just had a hard trip here. I am very pleased that the hatchery is replacing my entire order and I can try again this coming week. I am praying my new set of babies will be strong and healthy! Murray McMurray provides great customer service. Thank you for replacing my chickens.
We ordered a variety of silkies from you several years ago and they are awesome! They have outlived all our heavy breed chickens and are still sweet and healthy, and 3 of them still lay an egg almost every day! These are very gentle and safe - the roosters even let you hold them! I would highly reccomend these little chickens - beautiful, sweet, good layers of tasty eggs, and live and lay a long time!
This was my first time ordering white silkies. I took my pullet to the Decatur County Fair. I got a first place and I got second in my class. And I got fourth place in over all in the feather legged class.
Our silkie from your hatchery is the center of attention in our flock! this year we will receive more from you guys.
many thanks

I am 13 yrs old. This is the second year Mom & I purchased chicks. I took 7 birds to my first poultry show and came home with 7 first place ribbons. The White Silkie took 1st place Best of Breed.
