This has always been one of our favorite varieties because it was about the first one raised by Murray McMurray. In 1917, the first time he made an exhibit at the Iowa State Fair, he won a blue ribbon on his prize Black Minorca cockerel, and it gave him a thrill he never got over. The Minorcas are the largest of the Mediterranean Class and the Blacks are perhaps the finest examples of their class. They lay large white eggs, are non-setters.
As a reminder, to help ensure a safe arrival to you, the minimum number of chicks for each order prior to April 1st is 25.
On and after April 1st, the minimum number of chicks required is 15. You can mix and match any type of baby chick in your order to reach the applicable chick minimum order. If ordering any bantams, we require a minimum of 15 bantams per order.

We ordered three of these birds along with a dozen other assorted breeds and they immediately made themselves known as the "adventurous" members of the flock. Always curious, inquisitive and very friendly. As adults, these traits continued to make themselves clear. These three chickens would come when called and were generally thrilled to be picked up and carried around.
We ordered an assorted rare breed mix 2 years ago and got three Black Minorca Hens in the mix. We call them the "Tres Amigas". Outside of being beautiful and healthy as are all your chicks, they are the sweetest most adventurous hens and great fun. When I come out to give the flock their afternoon lettuce scraps or bread heels, the minute I sit in the chair out in the chicken yard my Minorca girls jump into my lap and my arms and take a nap on me in the sun. They lay nice eggs too! It's amazing getting to know your chickens and their personalities!
Three years ago, I ordered a Black Minorca Cockerel, and he has won Champion Mediterranean Rooster twice. He is beautiful and has fertilized eggs which hatched into beautiful chicks. I recommend these birds!!!
