The male and female Blue Eared Pheasants are very similar in appearance. They have a black crown, bright red wattles, reddish legs, & white ear tufts that continue under the chin. The neck and wings are a bluish gray. The wings also have a brownish color on the feather tips. Some of the tail is the same color as the body while other feathers are white with dark ends.. The males are normally larger than females, and males have large round spurs while the females have smaller spurs.
The are extremely hardy birds, loving the snow and inclement weather.
They eat a layer pellet and love treats such as fresh greens, fruits and vegetables.
They are very easy to tame being friendly and curious birds. They can be trained to eat out of your hand. The males can become aggressive, though, during breeding season, trying to attack humans. That behavior may continue with the males after breeding season is over.
They are calm birds that love to show off when any one is watching. Blue Eared Pheasants love to dust and sun themselves. They also love to play in mud.
They are available as adult male/female breeder pairs. They have not been pinioned but you can request that a wing be clipped. To do so, please call 1-800-456-3280.
