Coturnix Quail

Excellent quality birdsWe ordered the coturnix quail for the first time this spring 2022. We have never raised quail before but have alot of experience with other gamebirds and poultry and wanted to give them a shot so decided to order from murray mcmurray over other hatcheries because of their reputation. We ordered the minimum 30 chicks and 22 have survived so far now at the 6 week mark and laying eggs. When they first arrived, 3 got underneath the nesting material and unfortunately got too much of chill to survive and did not make it. The rest were VERY lively and healthy looking upon arrival. Lost 5 more within the first 24-48 hours due to likely not being strong enough or got a chill during shipment. We quickly called the customer service line and they were VERY helpful.

The variety of colors is beyond what i expected since other assorted orders of chickens or ducks can give you very few. Now that they are fully feathered, and after researching the known feather colors, we have around 18 different colors out of 22 birds. The ratio of females to males is also quite high which I think was pure luck on our part. A few of the girsl have started laying eggs this week right at the 6 week mark and laying perfect quality eggs. We just switched them to layer gamebird feed the week before which helps. One of the females so far is laying a solid blue egg which shows the variety of genes used in their flock.

thank you Murray McMurray for the wonderful birds and experience receiving and raising these quail. I wish you sold coturnix hatching eggs as well which i think would help with survival rate from shipping but our experience was not bad at all. Will order again in the future and spread the word .

Horrible packageI was expecting some losses when arrived only 6 alive 3 gasping for air down to just 2 live quail out of 30 please do a bigger box when shipping
