So what's the deal with brown eggs that are covered with white flecks? Looks like calcium deposits. Am I doing something wrong? Only one hen out of seven lays eggs like this.

Yes, white flecks on the eggs are most likely calcium deposits. If it just happens once then it was just a glitch in the laying process. If the bird always lays eggs like this then there may be other causes. She could have some sort of respiratory infection. If you don't notice her being sick and she continues to lay these calcium deposit eggs, just chalk it up to mother nature. Every egg is not perfect. Those eggs we buy from the store have been checked for perfection and the odd ones removed. Nothing wrong with the egg. Just not a perfect one.
