Seriously considering using sand for the bedding for our newest round of chickens. They are mainly free range, put up each night. Supposed to be good for clean feet, few insects, and easy clean up. Opinions?

i think you will still need something for nesting ---
i think it may be good for flooring --- and easy for cleaning --

Just finished filling our new insulated coop with a "screen cleaned" course sand. All the research we did on this subject led us to this decision. We will be watching the new hens closely. Our thoughts today may be to switch to the pine shavings through the winter months for added warmth as we live in the Northwest. It's an experiment.
