Hi
I am a first time chicken owner. I'm getting 8-10 rhode island reds...how much space/ boxes do I need? Thanks and any advice is appreciated!

You want at least 3 sq ft per bird in the coop. They will share the next boxes so 1 per every 5 hens. You may want 3 or so just in case you add to your flock later.

I prefer a minimum of 4 square feet per bird, with more if the run is small.
We usually have 12 birds and I have never see them use all three of the nesting boxes, they seem to dogpile into one , with occasional overflow into a second one. It never hurts to have an extra, so three should work easily. But it depends on how many of your chooks get broody at once: better one or two too many than too few nesting spots.
