anyone know how they do in the cold or high altitude?

Most duck breeds are very hardy so they should do fine in colder climates. Just be sure you have shelter to get away from any draft in the winter....this rule goes with any type of bird. They do need protection from the cold wind. Altitude is not a problem with the ducks. Just keep plenty of fresh water available for them to keep hydrated!

thanks --- do they need a mate-- or is one male good for several females?

One male per 5-6 females with the ducks. Domestic breeds won't usually pair off.
