I am starting with 50 chicks my hen house will be 8' x 20' my lot will be 25' x 20' and my nests will be 14" wide by 12" high. I think 16 would be enough for now? what do you think?

The chickens need 3 sq ft. per bird, so 16 birds will have plenty of space in the coop you have.

You can fit the 50 birds in your 8x20 coop. For layers the ratio is always 3 sq ft per bird.

Well, you need at least 300 sq ft total. There could be several sizes you could build depending on what length and width you want and the lot size your working with. There are several sq ft calculators online you can figure different sizes and what will work with your lot size.
