City girl with a touch of country blood.
Who decides whether I open the run gate to free range yard when it's raining--me or the chickens? I have mature hens & 7 wk pullets. Thanks for your input!

I have 20 acres in rural Cambridge where I hobby farm. I have chickens, ducks, geese, guineas, cats, dogs, goats, a horse and a miniature donkey.
I always give mine the choice. If it's wet they'll generally opt to stay in (this is one regard that they actually have good smarts) but at least this way if it stops they can get out and enjoy the yard for a bit.
