If you want to add some fresh protein to your fowl's diet, try hanging a low watt bulb in their yard, above their reach, to bring in all sorts of flying insects. Put it on a timer though so it shuts off not long after dark so your fowl go to bed.

If you also raise bees, keeping them in a poultry area provides nutrition too, because the the bees die, they are pushed out the front of the hive and onto the ground.

I use an inexpensive solar light that is stuck into the ground (it has all plastic housing).
