What are the colored bands that are on the legs of ducks and geese when they are shipped?

Leg bands indicate males from females. For geese the males have bands on the right leg and females have bands on their left leg.
For ducklings the males will have a purple or black leg band and the females will have a brown or white leg band.

How about a green band on a duck?

The green band is indicating a female. We now use colored tape on the birds, so you do not need to remove it from the legs. It will fall off within 7-14 days.

mine had yello tape around their legs that was hard to cut off because it was so tight against the skin of their legs. so be careful removing them

You do not need to remove the tape from the legs. It will fall off on it's own in 7-14 days.
