what are your favorite protein sources for your chickens?

Corn gluten. Lightly mixed in with feed. They love it.

Split green peas and meal worms. The green peas have (I think, do your own reasearch), a fairly innocuous amount of protein. I don't think it would be easy to overdo it and hurt them with too much protein from just peas as a treat, but they have something like 17% protein or more.

The meal worms they LOVE and have higher protein content, so I try to balance it out with some peas and hen scratch (contains a lot of wheat which is also a good protein source).

I've read a few things about the harm of having too MUCH protein in their diet. My layer feed is about 18% protein and I feel pretty OK with that.
