The Barred Rock is one of the all time popular favorites in this country. Developed in New England in the early 1800's by crossing Dominiques and Black Javas, it has spread to every part of the U.S. and is an ideal American chicken. Prolific layers of brown eggs, the hens are not discouraged by cold weather. Their solid plumpness and yellow skin make a beautiful heavy roasting fowl. Our strain has the narrow, clean barring so desirable in appearance. Their bodies are long, broad, and deep with bred-in strength and vitality. These chickens are often called Plymouth Rocks, but this title correctly belongs to the entire breed, not just the Barred variety. Whatever you call them, you can't beat them for steady, reliable chickens. Baby chicks are dark gray to black with some white patches on head and body.
As a reminder, to help ensure a safe arrival to you, the minimum number of chicks for each order is 25. You can mix and match any type of baby chick in your order to reach the 25 chick minimum order.

Three weeks ago we ordered our new flock of 30 chicks, and they have not stopped eating every since. We have White Rocks, Barred Rocks, Wyandottes, Black Giants, and Light Brahmas, along with our mystery chick. They arrived well packaged and very healthy. This has been a great experience dealing with Murray McMurray....we will be back for more.
Thanks again!

I am having a lot of fun with my Barred Rocks, they are very lively and enjoy playing. I was concern about the long flight from Iowa to Puerto Rico, nevertheless, they endure the long trip bravely.
My Barred Rock pullets from this year are doing great. They started laying at 5 months and 6 days old. I did not lose a single chick in the order, they were healthy and happy from the beginning. They are friendly, funny, and always ready for a treat. Thanks Murray McMurray.
Love my Barred Rocks. They arrived all healthy and strong. They are very friendly. I can not wait for them to start to lay. I am hooked, already planning for next spring.
My Barred Rocks are so sweet, and they are great egg layers. I've had chicks from each of my Barred Rock hens, and our White Plymouth rooster. Thanks for the great birds! :)
I can not say enough good things about doing business with you, enjoying my assortment of chicks, for the first time I'm trying the Barred Rocks and things are looking good. Thank-You
Never before have I ever recieved such great all around service as I do with Murray McMurray. If I have a question... they have an answer. Thanks for everything and long live the backyard chicken.
when we got our chicks they came in great shape and they were ADORABLE. We have had them for about four weeks. Me and my sister love them so much!!!!!! We have 26 chicks. We have barred rocks, wyandottes, red stars, rhode island reds, jumbo x rocks, and a mystery chick. We are having fun trying to solve the mystery. Time will tell. They are great pets. We love them!!!
I have ordered Barred Rocks from you since 2008, and they all have been beautiful every time I got them home. Full of energy, alert and peeping. Thanks for all of your hard work and the care that you take of your chickens!
I have been ordering from Murray Mcmurray for over 2 years and have never been dissapointed. I order the barred rocks and they always arrive spunky and beautiful. Thanks Murray Hatchery for your chickens they are a joy to have.
The Barred Rocks that came with our order of 12 chicks have turned out to be a great mix to the flock. They are the first ones to arrive at the coop door, lay big brown eggs and are the queens! Thanks
If you want BIG eggs I'd go with this breed!
Thank you for providing me with such WONDERFUL Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks, and White Rocks. They come when I call them, and they are very friendly. They have such good personalities. Thanks,Melanie
This city boy ordered chickens for the first time last July. I couldn't be more pleased with my little flock of Barred Rocks. They are friendly and hilarious. The hens started laying in December and haven't let up. The cockerels dressed out nicely at a good weight. The remaining rooster has a very high opinion of himself and investigates any mystery thoroughly.
I have to comment on your customer service. The lady who took my order was so helpful. She brought up issues I hadn't considred and didn't quit until she was sure I was ready to recieve my chicks. Fantastic! You rarely encounter service like that any more. Thanks again. Murray McMurray has my business from now on.
WOW! WOW! WOW! My family and I ordered 10 Barred Rocks along with some Buff Minorcas and SC Brown Leghorns last October. All arrived safe and sound, and full of vigor, but the reason I am writing is to tell you that my Rocks are not only the most Standard perfect birds I've ever seen, the pullets started to lay steady at 17 weeks!
They are the most friendly birds and all 4 of my kids adore them. Thank you for the wonderful poultry and service. But most of all, the memories I'll keep of the kids volunteering to care for them and the 1/2 inch of dust that has built up on the video games!! Thanks again, Tim Hogan.
I have 30 chickens including RIR, Araucanas and 1 Barred Rock. She is my pet. We do everything together including fishing. Her name is Tubby & she earnd that name. I am twelve and I am really into chikens. Thanks for giving me a very good friend.
This year at age 12, I bought my first chicks. I got 5 barred Rock, and 5 Rhode Island Red. They have so far grown to be very beautiful birds, and wonderful pets. One hen loves to be picked up and held. Thank you for these wonderful pets.
I recieved 26 chicks, including Barred Rocks, Red Caps, Dominiques, Golden Campines and several other breeds. They were delivered on time and healthy. They're beautiful, adorable and full of energy. Thank you so much! I will definately use your hatchery in the future.
Our purchased Barred Rocks from McMurray Hatchery. We have enjoyed our purchase as well as their customer service. McMurray offered to us some of the finest birds, with good health, good coloring, and some of the finest meat. They were delivered on time with a alive rate of 100%. At first, as with many who are weary about ordering things through the mail. We were impressed by the health and size of our flock. Our hens began laying by 20 weeks and have not stoped even with short days, or cold weather. Yhey lay good eggs with great taste. Thanks McMurray for being there for us. from: Michael R Rollen, President/CEO of Arborcay.com
5 years ago, we ordered Barred Plymouth Rock pullets-our first chicks ever-to show in 4H, and have had this breed ever since. Our McMurray pullets have been in the purple every summer since! Our judges comment every year on how nice they are, and our parents love that they lay so well! Our McMurray Royal Palm Turkeys have won the Champion (best in show) or Reserve Champion for two years as well. We will be graduating from high school (and therefore 4H) soon, but our folks say they will keep a flock of McMurray Barred Rocks around for their beauty, good company, and of course, their eggs!
I had wanted a chicken since I saw my grandma's Rhode Island Reds. Now, at 14, I finnaly convinced my mom to let me get some chickens, and I chose Barred Rocks. I could not have made a better choice. I raised them in my room. My chickens are now hearty, beautiful, and lay wonderful brown eggs. I feel so proud that I raised these beautiful birds from chick to adult on my own.
I have been doing business with McMurray Hatchery since I was 11 years old, placing my first order in 1982. I have had chickens from their flock for over 21 years. Last spring we ordered 30 Barred Rocks and started a new flock. All the fine birds arrived just as they always have healthy and full of energy. Now my 8 year old boy will buy his birds from McMurray for years to come. Thanks Guys!!!

I am 12 yeaers old, and I wanted to have a pet. I chose chickens, because i enjoyed playing with them.
I bought my first chicks last june. They were all very healthy and exteremly adorable! I had ten of them and I raised them in my room.
Now they are big and strong. They live in my backyard, though I don't know if my neighbors like that. They all have names, Paprica, Perfect, and Sunny are three of the names.
I just wanted to thank you for bringing me some of the best freinds I have ever had.-Amber
I was a first time customer this past spring. I rec'd 25 pullets in April, followed the instructions and we didn't lose a single chick. We were impressed by the health and size of our flock. Our hens began laying by September. We plan on getting quail, turkeys and pheasants this coming spring. Thanks for offering such a high quality product.Carolyn MalfaraThompsontown, PA
My barred rocks came in extremely healty and all have grown big and strong. thank you very much!Sean Curtis Alpha, NJ
I purchased Barred Rocks from McMurray Hatchery in Feb. 2002. They are some of the finest birds I have ever seen. At first I was unsure about raising birds from a hatchery. But my concerns were short lived. I am overwhelmed with the production of eggs that started at four months of age. I am equally impressed with the quality of egg these fine birds produce. I have one rooster named General. He is the largest, and finest of the four roosters I ordered with 20 hens, and he is of show quality I am sure. I have since ordered several other breeds from McMurray, and am eqaully satisfied, and impressed. Thank you.
I purchased some Barred Rocks from your hatchery. When they were old enough I entered them in our county fair. As I was checking my entries in the man helping me commented on how nice my pullets were. He ask where I got them and I advised him from McMurray. He was surprised and said he didn't know any hatcheries sold such nice stock. One of the pullets won Reserve Grand Champion pullet of the fair. I was so happy to have won such nice award in my very first fair! All chicks I received were very healthy. The barring was very good on the feathers. All hens were very good layers. LynnArapaho, OK
