Juvenile Peafowl and Cranes
MISCELLANEOUS JUVENILE BIRD FACTS
Juvenile birds are shipped Wednesdays, via USPS Express Mail. We will call you when we are ready to ship your order. Juveniles will eat a poultry layer crumble or a gamebird crumble. They are given scratch during transit. Pinioned birds – The right side is pinioned. Feel the end of the wing where the bone would be and compare with the left. They are easily pinioned at hatching, otherwise it is a surgical procedure. Juveniles that are not pinioned can have a wing trimmed. The trimmed feathers will grow back, though, so it will need to be done approximately four times a year.
Birds that are not wing trimmed or pinioned will fly away, and most likely not return. Keep in mind these are wild birds - pinioning or trimming the wing are sure ways to keep them from flying away. Peafowl can jump 8 feet in the air, even with a wing clipped. Miscellaneous Notes:
