The Pearl White Leghorn is, by far, our best white egg layer. Many decades of research and breeding select strains have gone into the development of our Pearl White Leghorns. The Pearl White Leghorn lays the most eggs of the highest grade, uniform size and shape, and highest interior quality of any breed we offer.
Pearl White Leghorn pullets will weigh about 4 lbs. at maturity and will start laying at just 4 1/2 to 5 months. White Leghorns will also continue laying 10 to 12 weeks longer than most good layers. Their livability and resistance to disease are very high, and their feed-to-egg conversion ratio is excellent, holding down the cost of egg production.

Q&A
Do the colored leghorn chickens produce the same quantity of eggs as the white leghorns ????
Pearl White Leghorns are a production strain. We estimate the egg production of Pearl White Leghorns is 280-360 eggs/year. The brown leghorns — Single Comb Brown and Rose Comb Brown — are heritage breeds. We estimate their egg production at 150-220 eggs/year.
How soon can the young be put in with the older laying hens?
We advise keeping the two groups separate until the younger group is about the same size as the older flock. At that time, separate the two groups with a barrier they can see through but not physically be together until they become accustomed to each other.
About how many eggs do they lay a year on average?
Pearl White Leghorns are our best white egg layer. Pearl White Leghorns average 280-360 eggs/yr.
do these breed true
Our Pearl White Leghorns are a production strain. They are not recommended for reproduction.
What is PEAC and what do the other acronyms stand for?
The PEAC is a code we use that refers to the cockerels / males. PEAP is for females / pullets, and PEAS is for Straigh Run, or unsexed. These coded help us when a customer places their order so we know which sex they are wanting.
I would love to try some Pearl White Leghorns. I am in a very cold climate (Colorado mountains) and am concerned about comb frost bite. How can that be prevented? How bad is it for the bird? How well does this bird look out for itself as compared to the Rose Comb Brown Leghorn?
The white leghorns do have a large comb. You can coat the comb with Vaseline to help prevent frostbite. They are very active and do well with ranging, but white colored birds do tend to attract predators more than darker varieties.
Are Pearl White Leghorns brood? Do they sit?
No, they are a non-setter, and very active birds.
How long do they lay eggs?
They typically lay well for the first 2-3 years.
Are the Pearl White Leghorns flighty? I had Brown Leghorns and couldn't keep them in my chicken yard, they flew up into my trees.
Yes, any leghorn variety can be flighty.
How are the Pearl White Leghorns in colder weather?
They are very cold-hardy, and tolerate the heat well, too.
What is the temperament of the Pearl White Leghorns?
They are very active and can be flighty.
What age do they start laying?
Pearl White Leghorns generally begin laying at 15-18 weeks of age.
Daily LayerExcellent layer of white eggs begin small but quickly move to large after a few weeks of laying, I am getting 6-7 eggs per week! They are more active than heavier breeds and one of the hens is an escape artist always looking to sneak out of the coop door or run if there’s an opportunity.
Customer
Money Wasted!!Ordered 15 Leghorns hens, and I’m only left with three chicks within the week of their arrival. The chicks arrived weak, and had labored breathing ( one already dead). Called the hatchery and emailed, and was only refunded for five birds! Only five! I was promised healthy, quality birds. Money wasted, and will not be ordering from this Hatchery again!!! I’ve raised chickens for years, and this doesn’t make any since at all!!
