Females will have a fine, smooth finish when dressed, and reach beautiful roasting size. Buying straight run chicks gives you some of each sex so that you can take advantage of the strong points both ways. Males are ready to process in just six to eight weeks, and females will take about one and a half weeks longer to reach the same size.

Jumbo Cornish X Rocks are hybrids designed as rapid growing meat birds. They should be butchered by 10 weeks of age.
Due to their rapid weight gain/growth, resulting in stress on their hearts if not processed by 10 weeks of age, may cause them to die from heart attack.
Jumbo Cornish X Rocks are not designed for reproduction or egg laying.
What does straight run mean?
Straight run means "unsexed" or as hatched. We have no indications of knowing if the chicks are males or females.
Is it necessary to caponize the males or is it possible to just finish and process them the same as the females?
They do NOT need to be caponized. This breed grows very quickly already.
when i get the chicks how do i feed them grit?
Either sprinkle it on top of their feed, or offer a separate container with grit so they can get what is needed.
For meat birds/butchering, do I just buy straight run? Any difference between sex and final outcome? Thank you...
Male meat chickens mature faster than females. If ordering a straight run, and you butcher all the birds at the same time, then you will have various sizes of meat chickens. There is no difference in the meat quality between the sexes.
What size pen do you need to house 25 chickens?
They need to have at least 3 square feet per bird.
Is there a minimum that you have to purchase of this breed?
No, but the minimum order for chicks is 25. You can mix the different breeds to reach the minimum.
If buying males do you have to canonize them ?How does this affect the quality and taste?
No. This breed grows very fast on their own. We do not recommend caponizing as it can be extremely stressful on the bird. This breed has been developed to be the best meat, largest amount of meat and shortest growth time.
What do you feed the Cornish X Rocks?
We recommend Broiler starter feed until week 3, then Broiler Grower/Finisher feed after week 3 until butcher.

It is suggested 6-8 weeks for Jumbo Cornish X Rocks.

what is a good live weight to butcher at to get a 4 to 5lb dressed bird
If you take a 5# bird live weight you should aprox get a dressed out bird of 3.5 lbs.
May 16 thru may 18 is our hatch date for our fair for meat chickens. Do u have them available for that day?
Yes, they would hatch and ship on 5/16 for arrival between 5/17 and 5/19.
do they need a special diet to grow properly?
We recommend on the CXR you start them on a 20-23% Broiler starter, after 5 weeks switch them to a 18-20% grower finisher. We also suggest taking their food away at night starting at 10 days of age. This can cut down on any potential leg problems.
What is better for eating, males or females?
How many would you suggest for our first time raising meat chickens?
There isn't much difference between males and female other than the females take a little longer to reach butcher weight. They will taste the same. Most of our first time meat raisers will start with 15 to 25 chicks.

unhappy customerI've raised the cornish x for years. first time ordering from this company. i got 35 cornish chicks and 5 weeks in they aren't any bigger than the layers I purchased at the same time. in fact a few are even smaller than the others. definitely won't be ready to butcher in 6 - 8 weeks. never again from this company.
