Khaki Campbell Ducks are one of the best general-purpose duck breeds, and probably the best layers of all of the domestic ducks. Khaki Campbells are excellent foragers and withstand colder climates very well.
Female Khaki Campbells are seal brown, and males are the same color with touches of darker brown resembling the Mallard drake.

Q&A
How do you tell the difference between males and females? The illustration seems to only show different colored feet.
A male duck will have a curled tail feather and deep, raspy voice. A female duck will not have a curled tail feather and they have the typical QUACK sound. Around 7-8 weeks of age is when the male ducks tail feather starts to curl and their voice changes.
What does the disposition rating of poor mean?
A poor disposition implies the birds are not a calm, friendly breed. They can be a bit flighty or aggressive.
Do you have a temperature recommendation chart for the ducklings? Before they are moved to their coop?
Once the ducklings have lost all of their soft downy feathers that they are hatched with, they can go to the coop without the need of additional heat source. This can take 4-6 weeks to lose their downy feathers.
At what age do Khaki Campbells start to lay?
Ducks are sexually mature at 20-24 weeks of age. If they have the correct feed and lighting, they will start laying then. Otherwise they will start as soon as the days begin to lengthen and it warms up in the spring.
Do I need to order in pairs or can I order 4 females and one male?
You may order baby ducklings in any quantity or sex.
My Khaki Campbell ducks are about 7 weeks old. How do I identify the drakes (male)?
Soon, if not already, the males will have a curl at the end of the tail.
How many eggs do they lay a year?
Khaki Campbell ducks average 165-210 eggs per year.
How long does it take for ducks to mature?
It takes ducks about 6-8 months to mature.
Can you ship ducklings and chicks together?
For biosecurity reasons, we do not hatch ducklings and chicks at the same facility. Ducklings cannot be shipped with baby chicks.
Does this breed fly?
Khaki Campbell ducks may fly.
Duck owner for 13+ yearsI ordered 11 Khaki Campbell ducklings in March 2011. There were 9 females and two males. Throughout the years they produced an abundance of eggs and provided countless hours of entertainment. Sadly, as the years passed I lost most to predators and some to illness. I still have one female who will be 13 1/2 at the end of the month. She eats peas, carrots, green beans, seafood cat food and pellets along with earthworms and mealworms. She has a heated house for winter and a pool for summer. Maybelline is losing her sight but she’s still sassy and jumps for joy when I feed her. Be prepared for a long happy life with this breed.
Customer
Healthy DucklingsI ordered three khaki hens in my last order, but one passed away the morning after they arrived. I contacted McMurray and their customer service was great and refunded me for the duckling. They are not the friendliest ducklings, but I have had other khakis that grew to be friendly when they matured, so I hope that is the case with these. They are currently about a month old and are a little over halfway feathered and are getting along great with the rest of my flock/the other ducklings and adapting well to winter in Wisconsin. I rotate them out during the day but they’re in at night under a lamp and are pretty hardy. They’re a lot smaller, so when I first introduced them to my other ducklings they were picked on a little more but they’re all thriving together now.
