This stately, gentle variety is very rare and extremely beautiful. The bluish-slate color is striking in Cochins.
THE COLOR BLUE: A unique genetic feature of this breed is the constant recurrence in the offspring of not only all blue chicks, but also the black, white, and black-white colors used in the original matings many generations ago to produce these blue birds. All of these chicks carry the blue genes and when mated black on white or with other blues in turn produce many blue offspring. In our breeding flocks, however, only blue males of the finest color are used.
Approximately 50% of the baby chicks will be all blue. The other 50% will be black, white, and black/white combinations.
As a reminder, to help ensure a safe arrival to you, the minimum number of chicks for each order prior to April 1st is 25.
On and after April 1st, the minimum number of chicks required is 15. You can mix and match any type of baby chick in your order to reach the applicable chick minimum order. If ordering any bantams, we require a minimum of 15 bantams per order.

I received two blue cochins from MM last year and they are the most wonderful chickens I own. One is Blue, the Rooster, and the hen is white. They are sweet gentle birds. Love them!
I RECEIVED 5 OF THESE WONDERFUL BIRDS ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO. I GOT 3 HENS AND 2 ROOSTERS AND LOVE ALL OF THEM. I HAVE CONTINUED MY OWN BREEDING OF THIS BREED AND HAVE GOTTEN ALMOST ALL BLUE OFFSPRING FROM ALL THE BATCHES I HAVE HATCHED. THESE ARE THE MOST WONDERFUL CHICKENS I HAVE HAD IN THE 25 YEARS I HAVE HAD BIRDS. I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS BREED FOR ANYONE WITH YOUNG CHILDREN. THEY ARE SO DOCILE AND THE ROOSTERS HAVE NO AGGRESIVE TENDENCIES. THANKS MURRAY MCMURRAY FOR THE WONDERFUL BIRDS I'VE GOTTEN FROM YOU OVER THE YEARS!
Not the most perfect review but I think the most truthful.
The spring of 2012 I ordered 10 Blue Cochins, 2 Buff Cochins, 10 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, 2 Salmon Faverolles, 5 Ameraucanas, 2 Dominiques, we got an extra blue Cochin and our free chick was a Dominique roo. The chicks were more than amazing, the healthiest little things. As they grew though, I grew disappointed, some of the birds did not quite "measure" up to what I was expecting. At first I thought it was MM so I ended up trying another hatchery, but alas their chicks are completely sub par to Murray McMurray's chicks! I will not be making that mistake again. I realized it was not MM but rather sometimes the offspring are not such great ambassadors of their parents. Genetics- that is how the whole world works, nature is not 100% fool proof. But I do think that good birds have a better chance of giving off good chicks and MM definitely has great parent stock.
Of all the breeds I got though these Blue Cochins are the most beautiful. I got 6 males and 5 females and EVERY LAST ONE was BLUE!!!! How AWESOME is that luck! I was expecting to get a few splash or even black but not one! I have to also say that these birds seem to even measure up to my show quality rooster! I think that's pretty darn good.
Thank you for my precious fuzzy buts!!
I have always told everyone about MM and will continue to do so! Thank you for my beautiful birds and I can't wait to get more spring 2013
We ordered 6 of these last year, and what a delight from chic to adult I recommend these highly! Sweet, gentle, well mannered easy to handle, would be good with kids-- not mean roosters at all, my dogs love them! Cold weather hardy! Eggs are great too. Thanx McMurray hatchery for offering these healthy beauties.
I ordered these last year (along with White Langshans and Speckled Sussex). I received one splash roo, one splash hen, two blue hens, and two black hens. How perfect was that!!! Thanks MM, once again we are pleased with the health and quality of the chicks shipped.
We ordered a Rarest of the Rare assortment, and one of our chicks was a beautiful Blue Cochin pullet. Now she is the prettiest and sweetest hen I own. Very nice birds, and I suggest this breed to everyone!!!
We got our 1st Cochins 3 years ago and have fallen in love with them. They are loving, sweet, quiet and gentle souls. They're very attached to us, as we are to them.
Here is a picture of our "Blue Cochin", Well, she was supposed to be a blue, but genetics got the best of us with this little sweetie and she turned out to be this gorgeous, precious black bird, and we love her so much. We didn't get our blue, but we got one of the best, sweetest chickens in our flock and wouldn't trade her for the world. Hope you have the chance to enjoy them too!
I love my cochin rooster, Happy Feet. He is sweet and absolutely
gorgeous. McMurray Hatchery delivered us an assortment of healthy
chicks. They all did wonderful, and we very much enjoy our backyard flock.
I love cochins they are easy to tame and fun to raise. They lay eggs, are good for meat, and are really great pets.Victoria PeeryBlythe, CA
