This stately, gentle variety is very rare and extremely beautiful. The bluish-slate color is striking in Cochins.
THE COLOR BLUE: A unique genetic feature of this breed is the constant recurrence in the offspring of not only all blue chicks, but also the black, white, and black-white colors used in the original matings many generations ago to produce these blue birds. All of these chicks carry the blue genes and when mated black on white or with other blues in turn produce many blue offspring. In our breeding flocks, however, only blue males of the finest color are used.
Approximately 50% of the baby chicks will be all blue. The other 50% will be black, white, and black/white combinations.
We ordered a Rarest of the Rare assortment, and one of our chicks was a beautiful Blue Cochin pullet. Now she is the prettiest and sweetest hen I own. Very nice birds, and I suggest this breed to everyone!!!
We got our 1st Cochins 3 years ago and have fallen in love with them. They are loving, sweet, quiet and gentle souls. They're very attached to us, as we are to them.
Here is a picture of our "Blue Cochin", Well, she was supposed to be a blue, but genetics got the best of us with this little sweetie and she turned out to be this gorgeous, precious black bird, and we love her so much. We didn't get our blue, but we got one of the best, sweetest chickens in our flock and wouldn't trade her for the world. Hope you have the chance to enjoy them too!
I love my cochin rooster, Happy Feet. He is sweet and absolutely
gorgeous. McMurray Hatchery delivered us an assortment of healthy
chicks. They all did wonderful, and we very much enjoy our backyard flock.
I love cochins they are easy to tame and fun to raise. They lay eggs, are good for meat, and are really great pets.Victoria PeeryBlythe, CA
