Why are your White Cochin chicks darker colored while chicks from other hatcheries are all yellow?
White chickens can be any number of genetic combinations beneath the white plumage. They could carry blue, barring, dominant white (the type required for pile), silver, gold, columbian, lacing, and the list goes on. The ‘white feathered’ chicks could have the genetic base of any variety of poultry you can think of. We have been breeding our flock of Cochins for more years then most hatcheries have been around. It would all depend on what stock they started with and what they have done to them since.
