What is Certified Organic? A certified organic product means that the food has been inspected by a third party agency to verify organic authenticity for the consumer. Certified organic products are inspected to ensure: no harmful chemicals or prohibited substances have been applied to the field for at least three years; operations follow strict standards to qualify for certification and keep detailed records of practices; and use of ecologically-friendly methods and substances to improve the soil and control pests.
