Delaware Broiler
The Delaware Enhanced Heritage Broiler — a McMurray Hatchery exclusive — is an updated and meatier version of the classic dual-purpose breed. taking a family favorite and making it and even better meat bird.
Heritage breeds taste better and live naturally long lives, and these birds are no exception. Our Delaware Broiler will provide more meat than comparable Heritage birds, but retain the great characteristics that make this bird a traditional barnyard favorite.
Raise these hens as layers, and process them when older. These birds are considered a slow growth broiler.
High altitude tolerant.
"We've enjoyed the Delaware Broilers as much as any bird we got this year. While they were slightly slower growers than the Ginger Broilers, we butchered some of them at 13-14 weeks. Now we have five hens and two roosters in the main flock, and the two roosters are massive — far bigger than any other chicken we have. They'll make a great meal, or two, whenever we need them.
We fed them meatmaker feed while we were growing them out, but now that some are in the main flock, they eat the layer pellets that everyone else eats and they are still gaining in size."
