Juvenile White Guineas
The plumage of White Guineas is pure white. Guineas have a distinct body shape which is easily recognized. They have short broad heads that are topped with a triangular shaped helmet that slopes downward to the rear. The face, back of the head and upper head is smooth with no feathers. The beak is short, stout and well curved. The eyes are large round and very alert. Many people buy guineas to control the grasshopper population on their farms. Also, guineas have proven to be effective in reducing the population of deer ticks, which can cause the fatal Lyme Disease and mosquitoes, which are known to spread the West Nile Virus.
On our farm we pasture our guineas to encourage their natural instincts to forage for bugs and insects and they're fed a natural feed supplement.
Guineas are known to wander far if not confined for 3-4 weeks to allow them to get accustomed to their new surroundings.
