A good scalder is key to easily and successfully processing your own chickens for meat. This electric scalder is made of fiberglass and works well for those wanting to process a few chickens or small turkeys at home.

Unit weighs 30 lbs., and measures 20" x 20" x 20" with an interior depth of 18".

5SCLD Single Heating Element — 110-volt Unit. Ideal for smaller numbers of birds.
5SCL1 Double Heating Element Unit — Two 110-volt circuits required. Heats faster and maintains a more consistent temperature than the single element unit.
5SCL2 240-volt Heating Element Scalder — 240-volt circuit required. Unit has one 4500-watt heating element, and a 3-prong plug.
5SCLE Replacement Heating Element — For use with either single or double heating element scalders.

Does this scalder actually heat the water? I do not want to have to heat the water separately.
Electric Scalder (sku 5SCLD) will heat up the water. If using cold pump or tap water (usually 50-55 degrees), the scalder takes about 35 minutes to reach recommended 152 degrees. The thermostat is adjustable from 120 to 175 degrees F.

Does the 5scld have computer board?
The Electric Scalder (sku #5SCLD) does not have a computer board.

How many birds will this scalder fit. Will it also fit a turkey.
This home unit works well when you have just a few chickens, quail, game birds, ducks, and even small turkey to process. Ideally, you would dunk one bird at a time into the scalder. Water gets murky after about 15 or so birds, so would need to start over with fresh water.

Does it have a drain?
No the electric scalder does not have a drain plug. To empty the unit you need to carefully tip it over on its side.

Can you adjust the temperature on this scalder?
This scalder comes with a thermostat and it is adjustable. The one listed separately on the website is a replacement and also adjustable.

What does the replacement element look like? Does it also include the square metal mount that screws into the tub?
The replacement element is one piece. It connects to the square metal bracket and has wire terminals on the outside.
