How is this mounted to the wall inside a coop, and is it better than a heat lamp, for older chickens?
The Thermo Chicken Pad may be mounted on the wall of a coop. Use caution to ONLY drill holes in the very outer lip portion of the pad, and definitely DO NOT use bedding on top of this heat pad. It can be used in place of a heat lamp for older birds, however it is NOT intended to be used as a heat source for baby chicks.

Is this something you would use when you get new chicks instead of a heat lamp? if mounted on the wall, will it give off enough heat for 20-25 chicks?
This product can be used with new chicks. Though when the only source or heat the pad will need the be laid down. The Thermo-Chicken uses two thermostats. This keeps the pad at 10-15 degrees above the ambient air temperature until a chick lays on it. When a bird lays on it uses its own natural insulation to warm to a max of 102 degrees. The pad will emit heat anytime they are plugged in so your pet can sense that heat and be drawn to the bed or pad for warmth and comfort. It is important to monitor new chicks continuously. They will let you know if they are not getting enough heat or are too hot.
