Birds lose a lot of body heat through their feet. Protect them from frostbite while providing an essential part of the coop. This perch features dual thermostats for perfect regulation of perch temperature.
Is there a way to attach it up high in the coop so the hens can roost on it?
For stability, while the hens are roosting, it is recommended to place the heated perch on a level surface.
You say the Thermo Perch is “unlikely” to catch pine shavings on fire. My barn burned down last year. It was a heat lamp and I am reluctant to use ANY heat source in there. Is there anything that you can recommend for heat that you know WILL NOT catch fire, 100%?
We do not know of any product that the manufacturer claim will be 100% fire proof, as accidents can happen.
The Thermo Perch has a thermostat inside the perch itself which maintains optimal and safe temperatures.
The Thermo Perch would be less likely to cause fire compared to a hot lamp coming in contact with pine shavings.
In extreme cold your perch may feel cool to the touch. This is because extremely cold air will "wick" the heat off the steel surface faster that it can accumulate. The internal airspace of the perch is still 99 degrees or so.
What is risk that this would catch pine chips on fire?
It is unlikely the pine shavings would catch fire from the Thermo-Chicken Perch.
A thermostat inside the perch itself maintains optimal and safe temperatures. Will only operate when temperatures fall to near freezing point and below.
Is there a way to turn the platform sideways so the chickens can roost on the flat side?
There is no way to adjust the angle or side of the perch.
What's the wattage consumption?
It utilizes 55 Watts, 120 Volts.
Is the length adjustable?
The unit is not adjustable.
