The Pilgrim breed of goose was developed in the early 1900's in Iowa - one of the few American bred geese. They are very calm and good mothers. A unique characteristic of the Pilgrim goose is that its sex can be determined from its feather color. The males are white with touches of gray. The females look like a Toulouse though they often have white faces. The ideal weight for the females is 10-13 lbs., and males 12-14 lbs. They will lay an average of 20-25 eggs per year.
Limited to 5 per order.
White pilgrim geese are male or female ?
As adults, the males are white with a touch of gray on the rump or wings. The adult females are gray in color, like a Toulouse, but often with white on the head.
Can sexed pairs of Pilgrim geese be ordered? I only see straight run as a choice. Also, how are pairs shipped?
The geese are sold as st run only. They are shipped priority mail to your PO.
Young HerosOur now 4 month old Pilgrim geese are out during the day, but in the back yard at night. Two nights ago, they clerly saved Aflac's life from a predator attack! She sustained injuries, but I expect her to recover with good nursing care. These juveniles are able to fly if they get a good start, and are very personable! These are the most curious and the most sociable geese I've had in the last 20 years.
Suzanne McMahonI have always wanted geese, because our family being of English Heritage always had a Roast Goose for Christmas Dinner. The grocery stores only have extremely small and expensive $70 + ones that I don't know how they were raised. We grow our own chickens & ducks. Our 5 Pilgrim Geese arrived very perky and full of themselves. Within a week they were not happy with their 5 ft. long tote. We are getting their ourside pen ready until they are large enough to free-range and take care of themselves. We LOVE McMurray Hatcheries - they always provide us with the very best live poultry and waterfowl.
