Are they dominant or recessive white?
Our White Orpington Breed has dominant white genes.

Do white Orpington chicks 4 weeks old have gray patch on lower back and head? Or are they completely white? My chick has some grey plumage on her back and head.
Fun fact time. As chicks they are completely gray. They will be white but they are growing out of their chick coloring

When do hens reach maturity and start laying?
White Orpingtons reach maturity and begin laying at 5-7 months of age.

Update from spring of 2024I ordered 13 hens and 2 males plus 1 surprise chick they arrived April 17,2024. All were alive and kicking. At about 3 months one died and again at about 4 month, don’t know why? All are strong and healthy know, Very happy with the breed ,starting to lay eggs , wound up with 4 roosters and 9 hens.ps you have to order them in the fall. I didn’t know this , It took me 5 years to finally find out and get them. Very happy now

Spirited little guysWe ordered 2 SR. I believe they are both cockerelss. One is for certain. They are very healthy and very friendly to us. They have been huge compared to all the other chicks ordered including the brahmas. Very vibrant & healthy!
The only complaint I have, which could be a fluke is that one of the white Orpington cockerels is very aggressive to all the other birds including our older Bielefelder Rooster. He is pushing around birds that are much bigger in size & they run from him. Temperament is much different than our extra friendly & super sweet buff Orpingtons from the same order.
By the way we ordered 25 birds this spring and all of them arrived healthy and happy.2 & 3 Months in with no losses or illnesses.
