White Orpingtons

Even Tempered Lap ChickensBeautiful strong healthy chickens who hold a nice middle ground between being assertive without being aggressive. Due to their size they aren't the best runners or fliers, but they conduct themselves sensibly as they free-range. In my coop, they are the bosses, but they are even-tempered. All but one of mine enjoys hopping up into my lap. Well, one isn't such a confident hopper so she just walks up and stares me down until I lift her up. I do worry about them in the rain because their fluffy feathers absorb more water, but they are right cozy in winter. I do have one who is stand-offish (although still tame enough to handle and not at all aggressive), so I guess there is always variety in temperament, but overall I'd say they are quite as friendly as I desired.

Spirited little guysWe ordered 2 SR. I believe they are both cockerelss. One is for certain. They are very healthy and very friendly to us. They have been huge compared to all the other chicks ordered including the brahmas. Very vibrant & healthy!
The only complaint I have, which could be a fluke is that one of the white Orpington cockerels is very aggressive to all the other birds including our older Bielefelder Rooster. He is pushing around birds that are much bigger in size & they run from him. Temperament is much different than our extra friendly & super sweet buff Orpingtons from the same order.
By the way we ordered 25 birds this spring and all of them arrived healthy and happy.2 & 3 Months in with no losses or illnesses.
