White Faced Tree Ducks

The White Faced Tree Duck (Dendrocygna viduata) is also referred to as the White Faced Whistling Duck. Ducks from the genus Dendrocygna are known as “whistling birds” and known for their distinctive call.

True to their name, the White Faced Tree Duck has a white face. The back of its head is black. It has a rust-colored neck and breast, black and white barred feathering on its side and back, and gray legs and bill. Male and females are similar, but males tend to be smaller than females. The White Faced Whistling Tree Duck is a powerful flier, but like other waterfowl, during molting they cannot fly.

The Tree Duck prefers lakes, marshes, and river banks and nests in dense vegetation near water. They feed by dabbling and wading at night, eating vegetation, insects, and mollusks.

To request a wing trim, please call (800) 456-3280.

See our FAQ for more information on states with restrictions on juvenile birds. We recommend checking with your state wildlife or regulatory agency before placing your order.
